Peanut (Arachis hypogaea) Allergen Powder-dnfp can cause anaphylaxis, which may be life-threatening and can occur at any time during. Prescribe injectable epinephrine, instruct and train patients on its appropriate use, and instruct patients to seek immediate medical care upon its use. Do not administer Peanut (Arachis hypogaea) Allergen Powder-dnfp to patients with uncontrolled asthma. Dose modifications may be necessary following an anaphylactic reaction. Observe patients during and after administration of the Initial Dose Escalation and the first dose of each Up-Dosing level, for at least 60 minutes. Because of the risk of anaphylaxis, Peanut (Arachis hypogaea) Allergen Powder-dnfp is available only through a restricted program under a Risk Evaluation and Mitigation Strategy (REMS) called the Palforzia REMS .

Uses for peanut allergen-dnfp
Peanut allergen-dnfp is used together with a no-peanut diet to help lessen the severity of allergic reactions, including anaphylaxis, that may occur with an accidental exposure to peanuts. Peanut allergen-dnfp is derived from peanuts. It is not effective against other food allergies. Peanut allergen-dnfp should not be used during an emergency allergic reaction.
Peanut allergen-dnfp is available only under a restricted distribution program called Palforzia™ REMS (Risk Evaluation and Mitigation Strategy) Program.
Before using peanut allergen-dnfp
In deciding to use a medicine, the risks of taking the medicine must be weighed against the good it will do. This is a decision you and your doctor will make. For peanut allergen-dnfp, the following should be considered:
Allergies
Tell your doctor if you have ever had any unusual or allergic reaction to peanut allergen-dnfp or any other medicines. Also tell your health care professional if you have any other types of allergies, such as to foods, dyes, preservatives, or animals. For non-prescription products, read the label or package ingredients carefully.
Pediatric
Appropriate studies have not been performed on the relationship of age to the effects of peanut allergen-dnfp in children younger than 4 years of age. Safety and efficacy have not been established.
Geriatric
No information is available on the relationship of age to the effects of peanut allergen-dnfp in geriatric patients.
Breastfeeding
There are no adequate studies in women for determining infant risk when using this medication during breastfeeding. Weigh the potential benefits against the potential risks before taking this medication while breastfeeding.
Interactions with medicines
Although certain medicines should not be used together at all, in other cases two different medicines may be used together even if an interaction might occur. In these cases, your doctor may want to change the dose, or other precautions may be necessary. Tell your healthcare professional if you are taking any other prescription or nonprescription (over-the-counter [OTC]) medicine.
