What is povidone iodine vaginal?

Povidone iodine vaginal is used to provide temporary relief from minor vaginal irritation, soreness, or itching.

Povidone iodine vaginal should not be used to prevent pregnancy or sexually transmitted disease.

Povidone iodine vaginal may also be used for purposes not listed in this medication guide.

Before taking this medicine

You should not use povidone iodine vaginal if you are allergic to it.

Ask a doctor or pharmacist if povidone iodine vaginal is safe to use if you have:

  • kidney disease; or

  • a thyroid disorder.

Ask a doctor before using this medicine if you are pregnant.

Do not use this medicine in a child or teenager without medical advice.

How should I use povidone iodine vaginal?

Use exactly as directed on the label, or as prescribed by your doctor.

Read and carefully follow any Instructions for Use provided with your medicine. Ask your doctor or pharmacist if you do not understand these instructions.

Do not take by mouth. This medicine is for use only in the vagina.

Gently insert the applicator nozzle no more than 3 inches into your vagina. Squeeze the bottle slowly, while allowing the liquid to flow freely out of the vagina. Use this medicine while sitting on the toilet or standing in a tub or shower.

When treating an infection, you may be given antibiotic or antifungal medicine to take by mouth or use in the vagina. Use all medicines for the full prescribed length of time, even if your symptoms quickly improve.

You should not use povidone iodine vaginal for longer than 7 days without medical advice. Follow all directions on the medicine label.
