DESCRIPTION
Acyclovir is a synthetic nucleoside analogue active against herpesviruses. Acyclovir Oral Suspension, USP is a formulation for oral administration.
Each teaspoonful (5 mL) of Acyclovir Oral Suspension, USP contains 200 mg of acyclovir USP and the inactive ingredients: banana flavor, carboxymethylcellulose sodium, glycerin, methylparaben 0.1% (added as preservative), microcrystalline cellulose and carboxymethylcellulose sodium, noncrystallizing sorbitol solution, propylene glycol, propylparaben 0.02% (added as preservative), and purified water.
Acyclovir, USP is a white or almost white, crystalline powder with the molecular formula C8H11N5O3 and a molecular weight of 225. The maximum solubility in water at 37°C is 1.513 mg/mL. The pka of acyclovir is 9.67.
