What is Clarinex-D 24 Hour?

Clarinex-D 24 Hour contains a combination of desloratadine and pseudoephedrine. Desloratadine is an antihistamine that reduces the effects of natural chemical histamine in the body. Histamine can produce symptoms of sneezing, itching, watery eyes, and runny nose.

Pseudoephedrine is a decongestant that shrinks blood vessels in the nasal passages. Dilated blood vessels can cause nasal congestion (stuffy nose).

Clarinex-D 24 Hour is used to treat sneezing, runny or stuffy nose, itchy or watery eyes, hives, skin rash, itching, and other symptoms of allergies and the common cold.

Clarinex-D 24 Hour is for adults and children who are at least 12 years old.

Warnings

Do not use Clarinex-D 24 Hour if you have used an MAO inhibitor in the past 14 days, such as isocarboxazid, linezolid, methylene blue injection, phenelzine, rasagiline, selegiline, or tranylcypromine.

Before taking this medicine

You should not use Clarinex-D 24 Hour if you are allergic to desloratadine, loratadine (Claritin), or pseudoephedrine, or if you have:

Do not use Clarinex-D 24 Hour if you have used an MAO inhibitor in the past 14 days. A dangerous drug interaction could occur. MAO inhibitors include isocarboxazid, linezolid, methylene blue injection, phenelzine, rasagiline, selegiline, tranylcypromine, and others.

Tell your doctor if you have ever had:

  • kidney disease;

  • glaucoma;

  • heart disease or high blood pressure;

  • a seizure (in you or a family member);

  • diabetes;

  • thyroid disorder; or

  • an enlarged prostate.

Clarinex-D 24 Hour should not be given to a child younger than 12 years old.

It is not known whether desloratadine and pseudoephedrine will harm an unborn baby. Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or plan to become pregnant.

You should not breast feed while using Clarinex-D 24 Hour.
